Membership in Waterwaynet.com's 'discount' card.

We've ordered a membership card that will be issued to all 'persons' on our email list.  Simple application, fill out the on line membership and we'll send you a 'jpg' which you can print and use.

We're currently working on convincing out Advertisers of the Benefit to them of your 'visits to their establishments.  The easiest way to accomplish this is for you to show your card and ask for a discount.

As we get 'contracts with them we will be posting them on the site where only you, the Members, will be able to see them.  We'll email you the 'page'.

Your involvement is what will make this system grow.  Your help is needed.

Thanks,

Capt. Gene

If you happen to be traveling the I.C.W. you might want to read this post from our friends at AIWA.

VA - (AIWW) - ALBEMARLE AND CHESAPEAKE CANAL - CENTERVILLE TURNPIKE BRIDGE - REVISED OPENING SCHEDULE FOR REPAIRS

Mariners are advised that the Coast Guard has approved a temporary deviation to restrict the operation of the Centerville Turnpike (SR170) Bridge, at AIWW mile 15.2, across the Albemarle and ChesapeakeCanal in Chesapeake, VA. To facilitate structural repairs to the movable span, the Drawbridge will be allowed to open every two hours for vessels requiring an opening on the following schedule:

A. Beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 10, 2010, until and including 6 p.m. on Sunday, April 11, 2010; and

B. Beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 17, 2010, until and including 6 p.m. on Sunday, April 18, 2010.

C. Saturday openings at 8 a.m., 10 a.m., noon, 2 p.m., 4 p.m., 6 p.m., 8 p.m., and 10 p.m.

D. Sunday openings at midnight, 2 a.m., 4 a.m., 6 a.m., 8 a.m., 10 a.m., noon, 2 p.m., 4 p.m., and 6 p.m.

E. At all other times, the drawbridge will operate in accordance with the operating regulations set out in Title 33 Code of Federal Regulations Part 117.997(i). Mariners should adjust their transits accordingly and use extreme caution when transiting the area. Chart: 12253.

NC - ALBEMARLE SOUND TO NEUSE RIVER - ALLIGATOR RIVER -TEMPORARY SAFETY ZONE

The Coast Guard is proposing to establish a temporary safety zone on the waters of the Alligator River directly under the US Highway 64 Drawbridge.  The safety zone is necessary to provide for the safety of mariners on navigable waters during maintenance of the US Highway 64 Drawbridge. The State of North Carolina Department of Transportation awarded a contract to Coastal Gunite Construction Company of Cambridge, MD to perform bridge maintenance on the US Highway 64 Drawbridge crossing the Alligator River at East Lake, North Carolina.  The contract provides for cleaning, painting, and steel repair. The contractor will require the drawbridge to remain in the closed position during painting from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. daily from June 1, 2010 through July 31, 2010. The Coast Guard will temporarily restrict access to this section of the Alligator River during the painting of the draw when maintenance equipment will be obstructing the waterway. Chart: 11542. Berkley Bridge to shut down for weekend repairs

NORFOLK, Va. – The 5th Coast Guard District commander issued a temporary deviation from the regulation governing the operating schedule of the Berkley Bridge across the Eastern Branch of the Elizabeth River in Norfolk Friday.

The deviation is necessary to facilitate structural repairs to the lift spans and resurfacing the bridge roadway, both of which can only be completed with the bascule span in the closed position.

Under this temporary deviation, the drawbridge will be maintained in the closed-to-navigation position on four separate weekends beginning at 8 p.m. on Fridays until 4:30 a.m. on Mondays from April 23 through 26; April 30 through May 3; May 14 through 17; and June 4 through 7. In addition, if inclement weather occurs, the closures may be rescheduled to May 7 through 10 or June 18 through 21.

During these closure periods, openings of the draw spans for vessels, along with the removal of barges in the waterway, will be provided if at least two hours advance notice is given to the bridge operator at (757) 494-2490. No significant marine events are scheduled during these times, and the waterway will still allow for the passage of vessels less than 48 feet tall.

Smaller vessels that can pass under the bridge without a bridge opening may do so at most times.  There are no alternate routes for vessels transiting this section of the Eastern Branch of the Elizabeth River.  The bridge can be opened for emergencies but may be delayed by two hours.

"Doing the repairs during the weekend will avoid negative impacts on the weekday rush-hours," said Terrence Knowles of the 5th District bridge branch. "We're also avoiding impacts on mariners because the majority of commercial marine traffic on the Eastern Branch of the Elizabeth River operate during the week, not the weekend."

"Also, this weekend repair deviation should not be confused with the ongoing deviation to change the drawbridge operating schedule during the week, which was due to increased land traffic impacts," Knowles said.

If you have questions about the deviation or need further assistance, please do not hesitate to call or e-mail Knowles at 757-398-6587 or Terrance.A.Knowles@uscg.mil.
